Patrick F. (Pat) Garrett, sheriff of Lincoln County

Pat Garrett is best known for killing the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid at Stinking Springs. But before that he worked as a cowboy, buffalo hunter, cowpuncher and a saloon owner. On November 7, 1880, Garrett was appointed Lincoln County Sheriff. He would take the place of sheriff George Kimbell, who resigned with two months left in his term. His first goal was to take care of Billy the Kid.
July 13-14, 1881 - At midnight, Sheriff Pat Garrett shoots Billy the Kid dead at Fort Sumner, N.M
